An Introduction to Writing and Illustrating Picture Books
On this beginners workshop Claire will guide you through the basics of
creating picture books for 0-6 year olds. You will receive advice on
what makes a compelling central character, write a character study and
bring it to life in colour collage. You will also gain an overview of
the current picture book market including what publishers are looking
for and receive constructive feedback on your own work.

Time: 11.00 - 16.00 (With 1 hour break for lunch)

About Claire:
Claire Alexander is an author/ illustrator based in Couch End. Her
award winning book Lucy & the Bully was published by Gullane
Children’s Books in July 2008 and was shortly followed by Small
Florence in February 2009, Lost in the Snow 2010 and her new book
'Back to Front and Upside Down' will follow in September 2012. Claire
studied Fine Art at the Kent Institute of Art and Design and has a BA
honors degree in Painting. She studied Illustration at Putney School
of Art and is an experienced teacher with a City and Guilds
qualification. Claire runs regular 10 week courses on 'Creating
Picture Books' in Crouch End, London.
