Claire approached both male and female artists on their Fine Art Degree. It immediately became clear that many female artists were not willing to pose with their work, but instead instructed Claire to photograph their paintings or their workspace with themselves absent.

In contrast most male artists were very excited by the prospect of being photographed and had very definite ideas of how they wanted to be represented.

Analysing the final images, and looking at the artistic influences apparent in each students work, the project revealed that the students poses--either consciously or subconsciously--resembled those used by their art world heroes.

One can see strong influences of Jackson Pollock's famous action painting photographs, traces of the eccentric quirkiness of David Hockney's poses, and the humorous poses staged by Eva Hesse's with her organic sculpture.

Claire originally named the collection '28 Stereotypes', and would like to apologise if this caused any offence to those who participated at the time, no offence was intended. Her own recent representation can be seen on the 'Artist' page.
