Participants were asked to pick two numbers from an undisclosed list, which would indicate a setting for the portrait and an object which would have to be incorporated somehow. Photographs were then taken of the ‘sitters’ in their poses to be used as visual references for the portraits.

Preparatory charcoal sketches were exhibited at Cafe Rustique in Tufnell Park, London in April 2004, and oil paintings were displayed as part of a group show called ‘One More Than Five’, at Lauderdale House in Highgate, London in May 2004.
