House of Illustration Picture Book Course

A week ago we had the last session of ‘An Introduction to Creating Picture Books’, a course I run at the House of Illustration in Kings Cross. It’s an intensive ten week course designed to arm students with all the knowledge and skills to both write and illustrate their own picture book to present to publishers.

Here is a selection of the students’ beautiful and varied work. Impressively some even managed to produce their first draft of a book dummy as well.

I’m looking foward to helping many of them develop their book ideas on the intermediate course I’m running at the House of Illustration in September.

You can read more about my course here. I also wrote a blog last year for the House of Illustration here.

‘Fantastic course, and excellent tuition! Claire is enthusiastic, positive and offers encouragement and helpful advice.’

‘Without this course I would not have been able to develop my already existing ideas to the level it ended up at. I have gained a huge amount of knowledge and been encouraged to do more work than I ever expected I would do.’

‘An excellent course even better than I’d hoped! Thank you for kick starting my picture book.’

‘Loved it, thank you Claire, way above my expectations! Thought I’d improve my style but ended up writing a book!’
